In their last matchup against the University at Albany on January 5, the Binghamton women's basketball team suffered a narrow loss, falling 56-53. On January 8, the Bearcats were once again on the road to face UMBC in their second game of conference play.

The Retrievers stayed close in the first quarter but lost momentum in the second quarter. Te'yJah Oliver had six with O'lesheya Braxton and Lyric Swann each tallying four as the team scored 20 points in the half.

Binghamton was able to grab the lead and began to pull away towards the end of the first half. Carly Boland got into double-digits with 10 points while Kai Moon put up seven. Olivia Ramil and Denai Bowman each chipped in six as the Bearcats led 36-20 going into the break.

Coming out of halftime, UMBC tried to close the gap. Janee'a Summers accounted for 11, Lyric Swann recorded nine and Te'yJah Oliver tallied eight as the Retrievers notched 43 points for the game.

Binghamton's lead never dissipated in the second half. Kai Moon reached 14 points and both Carly Boland and Denai Bowman amassed 10 apiece as the Bearcats get their first conference victory as they win 61-43. This puts the team at 1-1 in the America East Conference. They will look to improve their record on January 11 as the team will return home to face UMass Lowell.
