Broome United Way Lists Socially-Distanced MLK Projects
January 18 is Doctor Martin Luther King Junior Day, which is a federal holiday.
Banks and most government offices are closed and there is no mail delivery. Some companies take a "floating holiday" while others maintain business as usual. It's always a good idea to call ahead on holidays to see if stores, offices or services are available for the day.
Normally, there would be speakers, ceremonies and a march in Binghamton to mark the occasion, but most traditional observances have been canceled or moved to virtual venues due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

The United Way of Broome County and other local organizations are using the holiday as an opportunity for a day of service. The United Way has put together a list of activities and actions that can happen while practicing social distancing and other pandemic protocols. Visit www.uwbroome.org.
