Broome Passes 8K COVID Cases-NY Passes One Million

As New York State has surpassed a million COVID cases since the start of the pandemic, the numbers also continue to march up over the holiday weekend in the Southern Tier with Broome passing the 8,000-case mark.

New York reported it passed the million-case mark on January 2 while the update January 3 put the total at 1,017,153. 30,476 New Yorkers' deaths are attributed to COVID-19.

In Broome County, an update January 3 from County Executive Jason Garnar reported a total of 8,236 cases since the start of the pandemic and 176 deaths, with a man in his 70s passing away last Thursday, adding to the morbidity total.

Cortland County also reported additional fatalities attributed to COVID-19. Seven residents died over the weekend for a total of 45. 30 of those deaths were reported in nursing homes.  Cortland County added dozens of cases for a total reported January 3 of 2,255. Delaware County reported 2 additional deaths for a total of 15. Delaware added 48 cases from December 31 for a total reported January 3 of 752.

Chenango County’s last report on New Year’s Eve added 19 cases for a total of 1,179. Deaths were unchanged at 18.  Tioga County January 2 reported a total of 1,765 cases, up 88 from the previous report on December 31. Deaths were unchanged at 64.
