Broome County's Stop DWI Arrest and Fatality Statistics for 2015 are revealing some surprising results.

Speaking on the February 27 edition of the weekly local public affairs program, Southern Tier Close Up, Broome Stop DWI Coordinator Chris Marion details some of the numbers in the 10 page report that breaks down the ages, gender, types of crashes, blood alcohol content, drugged driving cases and other details.

Marion says one big surprise is that the number of DWI arrests have gone down but the number of fatalities rose substantially.

Marion says the number of drug-impaired driving incidents has also increased in older drivers.

The statistics will help the Broome County Stop DWI Program to target education and prevention efforts this year.

The report can be found on the agency's website: www.bcstopdwi.com.

Southern Tier Close Up can be heard Saturdays at 12:10 p.m. on News Radio 1290 WNBF.
