Broome County officials say entering into a Pharmacy Coalition is expected to save up to $10 million for the coverage of government employees.

Officials say joining the Keenan Pharmacy Purchasing Coalition will reduce prescription costs, saving $5 million with another $5 million coming in matching funds from the New York State County-Wide Shared Services Initiative Plan.

Broome County also has plans to review additional programs and services with a goal of reducing costs.

The coalition has the ability to have more muscle in negotiating prescription prices and take advantage of volume discounts and manufacturer rebates.
