The Broome County Industrial Development Agency (IDA) is making progress on its plan to create a new tech park in the towns of Union and Maine. They recently released the draft scoping document for the State Environmental Quality Review Act (SEQRA) environmental impact assessment. The goal of this initiative is to attract businesses in advanced electronics, semiconductors, and other related industries.

The IDA is interested in hearing from the community and getting their input on the scoping document. They have scheduled a public hearing on September 10 at the Maine-Endwell High School auditorium. This is an opportunity for community members to give their formal comments on the document. The IDA focuses on assessing potential environmental impacts, such as land, air, water, traffic, and local utilities. These assessments are required under the SEQRA law.

The IDA says it is dedicated to creating a site that is ready for businesses to move in and start creating jobs. The draft scoping document is just one step in the process. Once finalized, the IDA will continue with environmental impact studies throughout 2024 and 2025.

The IDA says that community engagement is a top priority. They believe that public input is essential in developing a tech park that will have a positive impact on the local economy. Stacey Duncan, the CEO of the Leadership Alliance, emphasized the importance of public involvement in creating a sustainable plan that can serve as a model for economic development in New York State.
