For the first time in nearly a year, movie lovers will have an opportunity to watch a film in a Broome County theater.

The AMC Vestal Town Square 9 multiplex is planning to open its doors again on Friday.

An employee at the theaters on the Vestal Parkway on Tuesday said people are reacting to the reopening news with excitement.

All movie theaters in New York state were shut down last March 16 in the early days of the Covid-19 pandemic. Theaters in some communities have reopened in recent months with specific health protocols and capacity limits.

According to the AMC website, "auditoriums are at 40% capacity or less to allow for social distancing. Masks are required before, during and after the movie unless you are enjoying food and drinks."

Advance ticket sales for Friday may now be made online.

No reopening plans have been announced for Regal Binghamton theaters on Front Street in the town of Dickinson.

In Endicott, Cinema Saver on Madison Avenue will be open again in a matter of days. The theater has posted on its Facebook page that it will be open Fridays, Saturdays, and Sunday from 3-7 p.m. starting on March 5.

They also added that the theater is expected to be back to its full operating schedule on April 2.
