The ordination of 29-year-old Matthew Lyons will take place at Holy Cross Church in DeWitt on Saturday morning. His first Mass will be at Saint Joseph's Church on Hayes Avenue at 10:30 a.m. Sunday.

Lyons graduated from Maine-Endwell High School in 2006. He then attended the University of Scranton and Binghamton University, where he graduated with a Master's Degree in management and finance. He recently completed his seminarian studies at Theological College in Washington, D.C.

Speaking on WNBF Radio's Binghamton Now program Friday, Lyons said becoming a priest was "something that has been on my mind since I was a little kid going to church." But he didn't begin to act on it until he was in college.

Lyons said he's looking forward to saying Mass at Saint Joseph's, the church where he was baptized.

Lyons just learned from Bishop Robert Cunningham that he will be assigned to Most Holy Family Church in Fairmount, just west of Syracuse, starting July 1.
