Broome County Executive Jason Garnar says he is asking New York State Comptroller Thomas DiNapoli to audit the county finances to make sure there are no discrepancies.

While the Democrat says he does not suspect any problems following the departure of Debra Preston, he wants to make sure the slate is clean.

Prior to Garnar defeating Preston in the election, word had come out about Preston using a Town of Conklin credit card to make personal purchases while she was Town Supervisor.

Preston held the card, that bore both the Town name and her name, and said she had long-ago paid back the balance on the purchases.

Garnar has denied having anything to do with the release of information about the credit card issue.
