Broome Agency Gets Money to Support Youth Mental Health

Funding to help youth who are at risk of entering residential or inpatient psychiatric treatment get the help they need but remain with their families is coming to Broome and Chenango Counties.

New York Governor Kathy Hochul announced last week that $21-million in funding would be awarded to 15 Youth Assertive Treatment teams serving children ranging in age from 10 to 21 and their families.

Hochul says New York is the first in the nation to enact the Youth ACT teams that work with at-risk young people to get treatment and to support their recovery. The Children’s Home of the Wyoming Conference in Broome County is part of the program along with the Hillside program serving Chenango and Cortland counties and Onondaga Case Management in Onondaga County in Central New York.

In the announcement from the Governor’s Office, Broome County Executive Jason Garnar is quoted as saying the “ACT teams comes at a time when the need has taken on new urgency with the effects the pandemic has had on our residents.”
