Authorities are investigating the death of a Binghamton-area man whose body was discovered at an Interstate 86 rest area.

According to stargazette.com, a cleaning company employee found the body in a restroom at the Campbell rest stop.

Steuben County Sheriff James Allard said the man was 51 years old. He did not release the man's name.

The rest area is located off the eastbound lanes of I-86 in the town of Campbell, about 65 miles northwest of Binghamton.

The body was found Wednesday. Allard said an autopsy had been scheduled to determine the cause of death.

The sheriff indicated the man apparently had been traveling alone. It was not known if investigators had located a vehicle that the man may have been driving.
