A Broome Tioga BOCES student is being charged with weapon possession after authorities responded to a call about a student possibly armed with a handgun at the Glenwood Road campus.

A witness said they saw the 16 year old Michael King of Binghamton in the bathroom showing off what looked like a black handgun.

King reportedly tucked the gun into his waistband before leaving the bathroom and was confronted by Broome County Sheriff’s Sergeant Thomas Williams, who disarmed him without incident.

The teen was carrying what looked like a 1911-style handgun with brown grips, but a closer look determined it was a BB gun.

Authorities say there was no orange tip as required by law on toy guns and the item was nearly an exact replica of a real firearm.

The King was charged with criminal possession of a weapon and turned over to his mother.
