The Binghamton University Police Department is reporting a small increase in crime complaints on campus.

Chief Timothy Faughnan outlined the annual statistics at a meeting of the University Council.

Faughnan says there were 37 more incidents reported over the past year from the 1,363 incidents reported in 2014.

Faughnan says he believes the increase is not so much the result of an increase in crime but better reporting and better police-community communication.

Faughnan says the division is also working on educating the campus population with programs and meetings with student groups with the number of those sessions steadily increasing over the past several years.

Last year, increases in complaints came for grand larceny, rape and assault.

157 people were arrested last year.
