Bob Joseph/WNBF News [file][/caption]A Binghamton man will serve eight years in jail in connection with the death of another man whose body was found June 20th of 2016 outside a home on Oak Street in the First Ward.

35 year old Nelson Romero pleaded guilty to a charge of felony assault after initially being indicted for murder in the death of 44 year old Walter Slater.

Romero is said to suffer from mental illness and had sketchy memory about Slater’s stabbing.

Police say the two men knew each other.

Slater was a frequent sight downtown with many business owners recalling his strange behavior but had not commented on Romero.

Neither of the men lived at the Oak Street address.
