West Side Shooting Suspect Turns Himself In to Binghamton Police
A Binghamton man who had been sought in a West Side shooting investigation has been arrested.
Authorities said 33-year-old Alberto Wong Jr. surrendered to city police while accompanied by his attorney.
Police believe Wong is the man who fired a gunshot at a man at 1 Brintnall Place on Monday afternoon.
Police units were nearby when a shots fired incident was reported but the suspect had fled the area by the time they arrived at the scene.
A description of a vehicle involved in the incident was relayed to other officers, who spotted the car parked at 17 Park Street a few minutes later.
The Metro SWAT team was sent to Park Street to search two buildings for the suspect but he was not located.
Police then conducted a yard-by-yard search along Park Street in an unsuccessful effort to find the man who fired the shot. But detectives knew the identity of the suspect and expected to make an arrest soon.
Wong turned himself in to police Wednesday. He has been charged with reckless endangerment and two counts of criminal possession of a weapon.
No injuries were reported as the result of the shooting on Brintnall Place.
