People opposed to possible reductions in Social Security benefits gathered in front of the Binghamton Federal Building Tuesday afternoon.

The event was one of many similar actions held across the country. The protests were coordinated by the Alliance for Retired Americans.

Members of the Broome/Tioga Labor Federation, Citizen Action of New York and the Broome Labor and Religion Coalition were among those who participated in the protest.

They're concerned about a proposal to change the cost-of-living adjustment formula that would result in a Social Security benefit cut.

Opponents say the revision would not accurately account for health care cost increases faced by seniors and people with disabilities.
