Binghamton Police Racism Suit Dismissed
A judge with the U.S. District Court, Northern District of New York is throwing out a lawsuit filed by a Binghamton Police officer alleging racial discrimination in the City Police force.
The suit filed by Lieutenant Alan Quinones last November alleged he had been passed over for promotion, was subjected to derogatory comments pertaining to his ethnicity and was punished for supporting another officer’s allegations of racism.
Justice Gary Sharpe decided the officer failed to provide evidence to support his claims of intended racism associated with the alleged activity in the police department or that his speech as a private citizen in connection with the other officer’s suit had adverse action.
A statement from Binghamton Corporation Counsel Kenneth Frank announced the dismissal of the racial discrimination complaint against the City, Police Department, Mayor, Police Chief and Assistant Police Chief.
Frank says the judge’s Decision and Order and any documents filed in the case are available to the public.
