Plans for Wendy’s, Jimmy John’s, Circle K at Binghamton Site
A former NYSEG property on Court Street in Binghamton may soon be redeveloped with a major chain convenience store and two fast-food restaurants.
Briad Development is seeking permission for the project that would include Broome County's first Circle K convenience store. Plans also call for the construction of a vehicle fueling station, along with drive-thru Wendy's and Jimmy John's operations.
NYSEG sold the property at 265 Court Street to a town of Binghamton man in 2005. The utility had used a three-story brick building at the site for offices. That structure was demolished by the new owner.
Circle K operates 28 convenience stores in New York state but the company has no locations in the Binghamton area.
In an email, Mayor Jared Kraham told WNBF News the city's planning department has had discussions with the project developers over the past several months.
Kraham said the project would be "a destination to attract more travelers off the highway and bring more services for Binghamton residents."
The site is two blocks east of Binghamton Fire Department headquarters. It's located at the corner of Court Street and Brandywine Avenue.
Wendy's operates 231 restaurants across New York with several in Broome County.
The Jimmy John's sandwich chain now has 13 locations in New York state, including restaurants in Vestal and Ithaca.
Circle K is owned by the Canadian company Couche-Tard. The company operates more than 15,000 convenience stores worldwide.
The Binghamton planning commission has scheduled a public hearing on the proposed project for May 6.
