The candidates for Binghamton mayor scheduled their first broadcast debate of the campaign during a live radio program.

Republican incumbent Mayor Jared Kraham on Monday issued a call to Democratic challenger Miles Burnett to commit to participating in three debates before early voting begins in October.

Kraham Tuesday morning phoned into a WNBF Radio talk show to issue a challenge to Burnett to participate in a debate on the station. That challenge could not be broadcast on the air immediately because of time constraints, so he made arrangements to call back.

Before Kraham called in at the appointed time, Burnett visited the studio in person to issue his own challenge to the mayor.

While Burnett was about to leave the studio, the mayor called back and offered to clear his schedule for an on-air debate this week.

Kraham and Burnett quickly agreed to get together Thursday to discuss some of the important issues facing the city. The conversation is scheduled to air live from 10:05 to 11:00 a.m. on WNBF 1290 AM, 92.1 FM and 93.9 FM. The segment also will stream live on wnbf.com and on the WNBF app.
