A Broome County grand jury indicted Lamont Weaver of Binghamton on separate counts of first-degree and second-degree assault.

City police initially had charged Weaver with attempted murder after a 39-year-old man was stabbed May 28 in an argument over food at 8 Crandall Street.

The Press & Sun-Bulletin reported that Detective Captain Jack Collins said the trouble erupted in a dispute over chicken nuggets.

Weaver allegedly stabbed the other man several times in the abdomen and head. The injured man initially had been hospitalized in critical condition, according to police.

Weaver was arrested three days after the stabbing occurred.
