Binghamton Man Accused of Firing Shots on City Street
One person has been charged after Binghamton police investigated two reports of possible gunshots during a one-hour period.
Authorities said 28-year-old Dajai Gonzalez of Binghamton was taken into custody late Monday afternoon on Lyida Street in the First Ward.
Police had received several calls reporting shots fired in the area of 6 Lydia Street around 5:15 p.m.
Officers determined there had been a domestic dispute in the street involving a man and a woman. The man fired a handgun into the air.
Police discovered the man also had violated a valid order of protection.
Gonzalez was taken into custody shortly after the incident. He was charged with reckless endangerment, criminal contempt and criminal possession of a weapon.
Less than an hour before the gunshots were fired on Lydia Street, Binghamton police investigated another report of possible shots fired in the area of Chenango and Lewis streets.
The rear window of a Honda Pilot was shattered in the incident. The sport utility vehicle was driven from the scene.
Police found the vehicle with the broken window on Frederick Street near Liberty Street.
Officers and detectives interviewed people on Chenango Street, Doubleday Street and Frederick Street in connection with the incident.
Detective Captain Cory Minor told WNBF News an investigation determined the car's window had been broken by a wrench and not gunshots. He said no injuries were reported in the incident.
It was not known whether charges had been filed in that case.
