Binghamton Man Acquitted of Manslaughter in Downtown Death

A Broome County Court jury has found a man not guilty of all charges in connection with a death following a party at a downtown Binghamton apartment house.

42-year-old Miguel Manchion had been one of two suspects arrested by Binghamton police after a man had been found unresponsive on the porch of a Pine Street apartment house in March 2018.

Manchion initially was charged with second-degree murder in the death of 51-year-old Lazar Jones. Three months later, he was indicted by a grand jury on two counts of manslaughter and one count of assault.

Manchion was acquitted of the three charges Friday following a two-week trial.

A juror said the panel accepted the defense argument that Manchion's actions were appropriate under the circumstances. Testimony during the trial indicated Jones had been repeatedly hit with a glass mug after he indicated he wanted to have sex with Manchion's girlfriend.
