A 44-year-old man was sent to Broome County Jail after he was arrested in connection with a vicious attack on a dog at a town of Conklin home.

Authorities say Patrick Burton of Binghamton was charged with felony aggravated cruelty to animals.

According to state police, a woman reported her dog, named Jack, had been severely beaten while she was away from her residence.

Investigators say Burton, who they described as the woman's boyfriend, had been at the home when she left. They believe Burton injured the dog while the woman wasn't there and left the residence before she returned.

Burton was arrested on Wednesday. He was arraigned in Conklin town court and ordered held on $5,000 bail.
