While the recent news of Nebraska’s new “Not for Everybody” tourism campaign is getting national attention, mainly as a laugh, the marketing campaign to promote the Greater Binghamton area to the outside world is being recognized for its positive portrayal of the Parlor City.

Visit Binghamton’s “Be Part of Our Story” has won a Tourism Excellence Award from the New York State Tourism Industry Association.

The 2018 Tourism Excellence Award for Overall Tourism Marketing County Level Effort netted a $500,000 prize.

The winners were based on commitment, leadership and accomplishment in travel and tourism.

Part of the campaign is a glossy magazine that features five inspirational stories from Binghamton including the development of the LUMA projection light festival, the area’s historic carousels and the media frenzy generated by a certain giraffe and the birth of her calf.  The magazines are available at travel plazas and welcome centers around the state.
