Binghamton High School “Makeover” Project Underway

Construction has started on a series of interior and exterior improvements at Binghamton High School.

The capital project was included in a package of nearly $35 million in upgrades approved by school district voters in December 2017.

In a WNBF Radio interview last year, school superintendent Tonia Thompson said the work at the high school would "improve the sidewalk perception" of the Main Street building.

Thompson said "significant work" would be done on the school cafeteria and "on reimaging the entrance" to the building.

Speaking on the Binghamton Now program in December, the superintendent said the new design will provide an experience "much more like entering onto a college campus."

The reconfigured entrance will mean students will proceed straight ahead into the school instead of moving toward the left under the previous setup.

Thompson also said the changes will improve accessibility to the school for people who use the nearby parking ramp.

Construction work began early this month. High school principal Kevin Richman, reached at his office Wednesday afternoon, declined to say whether the project was expected to be completed before classes start in September.

Thompson and assistant superintendent Michael Holly were not available this week to discuss the high school project.
