12-year-old Aliza Spencer was the baby of the family. The youngest of four, Aliza was the daughter of Fred and Janet Spencer. She was a sixth-grader at East Middle School in Binghamton and was just minding her business, out for a walk when she was murdered.

Aliza was out for a night walk in her neighborhood with her father and 13-year-old brother when she was shot in the chest by a single small-caliber bullet. According to Binghamton Police Chief Joseph Zikuski, Aliza and her family were just “across the street and up a house or two” from their home when the fatal shot was fired.

Aliza lost her life on April 21, 2022.

Now, nearly two months after Aliza Spencer was murdered, few new developments have emerged and the gunman remains at large. Aliza's family, those who loved her, and her community are grappling as they attempt to understand how someone could snuff out such a bright and hopeful life and get away with it for so long.

A community is mad. A community wants answers. A community wants justice for a little girl who loved to cook and bake, who loved to spend time with her daddy in their garden, and who was a big helper to her mama. A little girl who was on the high honor roll and who had such a promising future. A little girl who was someone's child.

A Justice Rally for Aliza Spencer is being organized for 7:00 p.m. on Saturday, June 18. The rally will be held at the corner of Bigelow and Chamberlain Streets in Binghamton. Organizers say, "We are being too quiet as a community! It has been too long. Our voices need to be heard! We want answers! We want justice!"

Those planning to attend are asked to wear purple and bring candles or lanterns along with their voice. Attendees will walk the block with signs and chants for justice for Aliza Spencer.
