The City of Binghamton is looking for input for projects and proposals to revitalize Clinton Street and the surrounding neighborhood business district, according to an announcement on August 13, by Binghamton Mayor Jared Kraham.

The city is preparing to apply for funding for Round 8 of the New York State Downtown Revitalization Initiative, or DRI for short. DRI will award $10 million in funding to 10 communities each across New York State for transformational projects in downtown areas. Applications for Round 8 are due on October 18th, 2024.

We’ve heard positive, meaningful feedback from residents, business owners, and other stakeholders since kicking off our efforts to reimagine Clinton Street and the surrounding First Ward neighborhood. Now, we’re issuing a call for more input: We want to hear from organizations, businesses, and other potential partners that have plans or ideas for capital investments and projects within the area. Clinton Street has all the makings of Upstate New York’s next great downtown. We already have a diverse group of stakeholders ready to work together to unlock its full potential, and I look forward to hearing even more ideas to build on our ambitious plans for the area. - City of Binghamton Mayor Jared Kraham
According to Mayor Kraham, the focus will be on the area of Clinton Street between Front Street and Jarvis Street with the goal of transforming derelict properties and vacant lots into productive uses that align with community input and needs.
Ideas are being sought for projects and opportunities to partner with organizations, businesses, property owners, and other stakeholders on investments in the Clinton Street Neighborhood Business District.
Anyone interested can submit a project through the City of Binghamton website. An open house will be held on August 26th, 2024  from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Tri-Cities Opera building located at 315 Clinton Street, Binghamton.
