Binghamton City Hall Entrance Replaced to Enhance Security
A repair and replacement project for a Binghamton City Hall entrance has been completed.
City Council in August approved spending $70,000 for the work at the State Street entrance on the west side of the downtown building.
The entrance initially was open to the public but its use was limited to government employees in recent years.
Mayor Richard David said there were security concerns about the old entrance. He said the locking mechanism sometimes would not latch properly.
The mayor said some structural issues that had developed at the entrance needed to be addressed.
David said the work has been finished with the exception of an awning that still must be installed.
The entrance is located below the site of a pedestrian walkway that was removed last year. The entrance reopened a few days ago.
