Appearing on the August 15 edition of the weekly, local public affairs show, Southern Tier Close Up, Community Hunger Outreach Warehouse (CHOW) Director, Mike Leahey talks about a change in the traditional date for the upcoming Hunger Walk.

Instead of being in October, this year the 33rd Annual CHOW Hunger Walk will be Sunday, September 20 on the campus of Binghamton University.

Leahey also talks about the growth in fresh food programs for those facing food challenges in the region and how CHOW can use donations of fresh fruits and vegetables from local gardeners and farmers as many crops are starting to come in.

Other new developments are the opening of a hunger pantry about a year ago on the Binghamton University Campus and expansion of rural food outreach in Whitney Point, Deposit and Windsor.

Southern Tier Close Up can be heard Saturdays at 12:10 p.m. on News Radio 1290 WNBF.
