A Broome County government bus driver was injured when the vehicle he was operating struck a tree in Chenango Bridge this morning.

The crash happened around 9 a.m. at 91 Chenango Bridge Road.

According to the Broome County Sheriff's Office, the 52-year-old Vestal man who was driving the BC Transit bus temporarily lost consciousness due to a medical emergency.

The vehicle veered off the roadway, traveled through a parking lot and hit a tree in front of a building which houses a UHS walk-in center.

Officials say there were no passengers on the bus at the time of the crash and no one other than the driver was hurt. He was treated at a hospital for what were described as minor facial injuries.

A "full and formal review" of the crash is planned, according to the office of County Executive Debra Preston.

Representatives of UHS were not available to comment on whether operations at the walk-in office were affected by the incident.

The sheriff's office reported the building sustained slight damage when the tree was pushed into the structure.
