Fans are voting on the top six suggestions for a new name for the Binghamton Mets.

In the contest are: The Bullheads, Timber Jockeys, Gobblers, Stud Muffins, Rumble Ponies and Rocking Horses.

Over 1,500 suggestions were submitted for the “Name the Team” contest.

The finalists are said to reflect identity with the Binghamton area.

Bullheads refer to fish in the Susquehanna River, Gobblers for the wildlife and local hunting tradition while Timber Jockeys, Rumble Ponies, Rocking Horses and, for some reason, Stud Muffins are all said to be tied to the area’s historic Carousels.

Votes on the finalists can be submitted at www.bmets.com. The new team name is to be announced in October.

The Binghamton Mets organization says it launched the renaming contest to find a moniker that more closely associates the identity of the team with its location.

In any case, it would appear team mascot, Buddy Bee will be out of a job.
