Even as Avelo Airlines prepares to end its nonstop flights from Binghamton to Orlando, there's an indication that the company may not be leaving the market permanently.

The Houston-based low-cost airline last month announced it would stop serving the Greater Binghamton Airport. The final flight is scheduled for August 18.

But a Vestal woman who sought a refund for an Avelo credit she wanted to use to travel from Binghamton has been advised that the company is planning to resume service.

The woman received an email from an Avelo representative stating service between Binghamton and Orlando "will return Spring 2025."

If that's going to happen, it's news to Broome County Executive Jason Garnar. He told WNBF News this week he had not heard of any Avelo plans to resume service to the airport.

The county executive said "we're in conversations with them and other airlines about bringing new service here" but he was unaware of Avelo returning to Binghamton next spring.

Garnar said the woman who was unable to obtain a refund from Avelo or others in a similar situation could contact his office for assistance.

Broome County aviation commissioner Mark Heefner on Friday also said he had not been informed of a decision by Avelo to resume service to the Greater Binghamton Airport.

Heefner said the nonstop service to Florida has been popular. He said 182 people were on Thursday afternoon's Avelo flight from Binghamton to Orlando, meaning there were only five empty seats on the aircraft.

Avelo representatives did not respond to email and phone messages seeking comment on the company's future plans.
