Citizen Action and other groups are launching an advertising campaign calling on Governor Andrew Cuomo and the state Department of Environmental Conservation to reject the water quality permit being sought by the developers of the Constitution Pipeline that is to carry natural gas from the Pennsylvania fracking fields to New York and New England.

The water permit is needed for the company to cut down trees in the right of way through parts of the Southern Tier.

During a news conference to launch the ad campaign, the owners of a Susquehanna County, Pennsylvania maple syrup business voiced their support after many of their maple trees were cut down by the developers in spite of several attempts to prevent the action or, at least, have the path of the pipeline adjusted to preserve the maple grove.

Pennsylvania had cleared the construction of the pipeline but the lack of a water permit in New York has held up the project.
