Constitution Pipeline

A main investor in the Constitution gas pipeline project in the Northeast says it's abandoning the development in wake of almost constant challenges.

The developers of the proposed 124 mile Constitution gas transmission pipeline are appealing New York State's denial of a water quality permit that is blocking construction through Broome, Delaware, Chenango and Schoharie Counties.

New York State Attorney General Eric Schneiderman is calling for a federal investigation into construction practices of the Constitution Pipeline Company.

The company planning to construct a pipeline to deliver natural gas from the Marcellus Shale gas fields in New England says it plans to appeal the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation’s decision to deny a water quality permit for the pipe that would slice through parts of the Southern Tier and Central New York.

Citizen Action and other groups are launching an advertising campaign calling on Governor Andrew Cuomo and the state Department of Environmental Conservation to reject the water quality permit being sought by the developers of the Constitution Pipeline.

The Constitution Pipeline will not be ready in the fourth quarter of this year as projected.
