A local American Legion Post is hosting a celebration to mark the 100th birthday of the American Legion.

Post 876 in Sherburne is hosting the celebration with a dinner March 12 starting at 6:30 p.m.  In addition to food and patriotic decorations, there will be historic photos, sounds of the 1920s and a special birthday cake.  Dinner guests can wear costumes of the ‘20s if they like.

Post 876 is located at 15 South Main Street in Sherburne.

The American Legion dates back to March 15-17, 1919 in Paris, France following World War I.  The organization helped start the Veterans Administration and worked toward establishing the GI Bill.

Centennial Posts in Chenango County are Lieutenant Warren Eaton Post 189 in Norwich, Frank H. Arnold Post 348 in New Berlin and Fort Hill Post 376 in Oxford.
