The Albany Great Danes women's basketball team has won the America East Championship for the third consecutive season as they defeated Stony Brook yesterday at SEFCU Arena in Albany 70-46.  It is the third consecutive America East title for the Great Danes.

Maine (1995-98), Vermont (1992-94) and Northeastern (1985-87) are the only other teams in America East to "three-peat".  Albany's Shereesha Richards was named the tournament's Outstanding Player. She scored 26 points to key the win.

Stony Brook was the only America East team to defeat Albany during the regular season and that happened on the last game of the conference schedule.  Albany will find out its opponent on Monday, March 17 at 7 PM when the seeding and opening round pairings will be announced.  The Seawolves earn a bid to the WNIT.  It will be Stony Brook's first post-season appearance since 2006.
