The Akel Family, former long-time owner and operator of Giant Supermarkets in our area, has made a major contribution to aid local healthcare workers.  The family has donated $100,000 to help in the fight against COVID-19.

$50,000 will go to the Lourdes Hospital Foundation and another $50,000 is earmarked for the United Health Services COVID-19 Response Fund.  UHS representatives indicate the money will help workers purchase equipment and personal care items.

The Lourdes Hospital Foundation assists caregivers who have unexpected expenses or are experiencing financial hardships while working to help others.

In a release from Ascension Lourdes the President of the Lourdes Foundation, Robert OÇonnell, says "this is a most generous gift and will greatly help our selefless heroes who are assistng countless individuals on a daily basis during this most difficult time."
