After Four Decades, Police Trying to Find Kirkwood Man’s Killer
Investigators are looking for new leads in connection with the 1980 death of a Broome County resident whose body was found near Otsiningo Park.
30-year-old Barry Marquart of Kirkwood had been missing for a couple of days before his father reported him missing on November 9, 1980.
State police found the man's car parked at the old Exit 5 rest area off Interstate 81 in the town of Dickinson.
Troopers discovered Marquart's body in a shallow section of the Chenango River, a short distance from the vehicle.
The death was ruled a drowning. Marquart had sustained injuries to his head and face.
Although investigators have conducted many interviews in connection with the homicide, they have not been able to obtain enough information to charge anyone in the death.
State police on Tuesday highlighted the "cold case" and asked people with information to call (607) 561-7400.
