A 4-year-old boy died when a fast-moving fire tore through his family's home in the town of Richford.

Authorities say Trent Hulse was pronounced dead at the scene of the blaze, which occurred early Tuesday afternoon.

The fire at 9266 West Creek Road was reported at 12:29 p.m. The Richford Fire Department and Berkshire Emergency Squad were dispatched to the house. They were assisted by units from five other fire departments.

According to Tioga County fire coordinator John Scott, the property was owned by William and Leanna Hulse. They and their three young children were in the home at the time of the fire.

The parents and two of the children escaped the burning house but Trent was not rescued.

The Tioga County Fire Investigation Team and the sheriff's office are working to determine the cause of the blaze.
