38 Apartments Proposed for Binghamton Masonic Temple

A developer is seeking city approval for a project that could convert the nearly century-old Masonic Temple building in Binghamton into an apartment complex.

Isaac Anzaroot acquired the property at 64 Main Street on the West Side two years ago.

A development proposal that calls for 38 apartments with a total of 56 bedrooms has been presented to the Binghamton planning commission.

Anzaroot told WNBF News his plan calls for converting the top five floors of the building into market-rate housing.

The developer said the first floor of the complex would be available for use as an entertainment venue.

Anzaroot also has purchased a vacant lot on the other side of Murray Street that would be used for resident parking.

The planning commission is expected to hold a public hearing in June on a special use permit to allow the project to proceed.

Anzaroot said he's excited about the project. If the commission gives its approval, he said he believes work on extensive renovations to the building could start this year.

Shortly after the developer bought the Masonic Temple, there were discussions about turning the site into an arts and entertainment hub. That project would have required millions of dollars in government grants.
