Broome County has received a Federal grant for just over $1 million to improve the north apron at the Greater Binghamton Airport.

The money will be used to replace the apron's aging pavement which houses a number of facilities including de-icing collection, an aviation fuel farm, a maintenance building, and a private hangar.

Grant money will also go to complete drainage improvements and to install new energy efficient lighting.

The grant comes from the FAA's Airport Improvement Program.  Work will begin in September as is expected to be completed by the end of the year.
