A Broome County man faces several charges after a lengthy standoff with state police.

Authorities say 45-year-old Jose Gonzalez of Windsor was sent to Broome County Jail following Monday's incident.

Gonzalez was charged with two counts of menacing, two counts of endangering the welfare of a child and one count of weapon possession.

Troopers were called to the man's Bennett Road home around four o'clock Monday afternoon. They were told Gonzalez had threatened two people with a rifle.

As police closed Bennett Road, a neighbor advised troopers he heard what he thought was a gunshot.

State police negotiators tried unsuccessfully to convince Bennett to surrender

A robot unit and cameras were used to search the home but police could not find the man.

Shortly after eleven o'clock Monday night, troopers went inside the residence and discovered Gonzalez hiding in a bedroom closet. The man then was taken into custody and a rifle was confiscated.

Gonzalez was arraigned in Windsor town court. He was ordered held on $5,000 bail.
