State troopers in Endwell are busy getting settled into new office space as the town of Union prepares to repurpose their old quarters.

Union town supervisor Robert Mack told WNBF News construction for the court facility is to get started on Tuesday. He said the goal will be for the town court to be operational at the site at the site by the end of May.

The building was constructed in 1996 for use by the town of Union court. The Endwell state police station, which had been located in the former Hooper School building on East Main Street, was moved into the basement of the court complex.

State police operations were disrupted by flooding in September 2011. The troopers were moved to the first level and the town court operations were shifted to the village of Johnson City's justice building.

The Union town board decided to move the court back to the Endwell building to save about $50,000 a year that was being paid to rent the Johnson City space.

The remodeling work includes floodproofing of the court building and the neighboring town office building.
