The UMBC Retrievers defeated the Binghamton Bearcats 68-49 in men's basketball Wednesday night in Baltimore, Maryland . The Retrievers, the defending America East champions, led 31-23 at the half. Caleb Stewart provided much of the Bearcats' scoring punch in that half hitting for 13 of his 16 point total. Overall, Stewart finished with a career-matching high of 16 points.

In the second half UMBC outscored the Bearcats 37-26 to secure the home court victory. Joe Sherburne paced the Retrievers with 15 points. Rebounding was a huge factor in the game with UMBC holding a 37-22 advantage. Binghamton secured just one offensive rebound in the game while UMBC grabbed 10 offensive boards.

With the win the Retrievers even their America East record at 2-2 while the Bearcats drop to 1-2 in conference play. UMBC shocked the basketball world with a win over the number-one seed and top-ranked team in the country...Virginia last season in the NCAA Tournament.

Things don't get any easier for the Bearcats as they travel to perennial conference power Vermont on Saturday evening at 7:00 P.M. (air at 6:45 on News Radio 1290 WNBF). Vermont defeated New Hampshire 73-59 on Wednesday night to up their America East record to 4-0.
