The Town of Union has big plans for the flooded-out BAE Systems facility on Main Street in Westover.

Officials have released a 167 page document that outlines the possible redevelopment of the U-S Air Force-owned property that was abandoned by BAE when flood waters in September, 2011 damaged the sprawling 27 acre complex beyond repair.

The Town’s outline shows mixed use for the site including a movie theater, sports and other recreational sections, commercial space and residential units in upper floors of some of the buildings.

The vision has the three or four buildings on the site built above the existing grade to protect property from future flooding.

The Town is also looking for improvements to the Oakdale Mall in Johnson City and the Huron Campus in Endicott. The outline is up for public comment until the end of October.

The Long Term Community Recovery Strategy can be seen at the Town of Union Planning Department, Johnson City Village Hall, Your Home Library on Main Street in Johnson City, the George F. Johnson Memorial Library in Endicott and the Endicott Village Hall.  Online, the plan is at www.thereunionproject2020.com.

Written comments can be sent to the Town Planning Department a 3111 East Main Street, Endwell 13760. Online comments are also being accepted through the project website and at www.recovery@townofunion.com.
