A coalition of Southern Tier economic development coordinators should hear later today if New York State funding for a high-technology incubator will be coming to the region under Governor Andrew Cuomo's StartUp NY initiative.

Cornell University, Binghamton University and the Ceramics Corridor in Chemung and Steuben Counties joined forces to put together a job creation proposal to compete for a share of $750 million in StartUp NY grants to be delivered to ten regions in the state outside of New York City

The Southern Tier proposal doesn’t look to have an innovation hot spot in only one location  but proposes having modules or nodes in Ithaca, Painted Post and Binghamton.

In addition to grant funds, winning incubator projects could be eligible for tax breaks.

Governor Cuomo has set up the ten regional councils for economic development using the state's annual economic development fund.
