It could cost more for students to attend SUNY Broome Community College next year.

The proposed BCC budget weighs in at $50.6 million and calls for a 3.5% increase in tuition as well as 2% more in contributions from Broome County.

If approved, the tuition would go from $1,910 per semester for full-time students who reside in  New York State to almost $1,977.

In an effort to hold the line on costs, the college is leaving  vacant some 17 teaching and 11 non-teaching jobs.

County Executive Debra Preston could still make changes to the proposed budget before it is presented to the full legislature.
