The powerful storm that dumped several inches of snow across the Twin Tiers caused dozens of vehicle crashes and thousands of electric customers to lose power.

Several cars and trucks were involved in a pileup on Interstate 81 southbound just south of the Binghamton city line Friday morning.

Five tractor-trailers were stuck in the westbound lanes of Interstate 86 near the Occanum exit.

Interstate 81 southbound was closed in the Great Bend area following a tractor-trailer crash.

NYSEG and partner utility Rochester Gas and Electric reported nearly 105,000 customers were without electric service late Wednesday afternoon.

In Broome County, 4,057 customers had no power. In Tioga County, 1,301 customers had no electricity.

Utility crews were working to restore power, although more outages were expected because of strong gusty wind across the region.
