Southern Tier Awarded $81.9 Million in Economic Development Funds
The Southern Tier is getting a good chunk of the $750 million in New York State Regional Economic Development grant awards this year.
Governor Andrew Cuomo and the state Economic Development Agency have announced the region would be getting $81.9 million to fund 87 projects and has been designated a top performer for economic development in the state.
Among projects being funded are a high-tech Downtown Binghamton incubator and infrastructure improvements at the Greater Binghamton Airport.
Some other projects included in the funding involve the long-discussed sewer line for along Airport Road in Broome County, environmentally friendly pavement at the public safety facility in Broome County to reduce storm-water runoff, renovations to the Roberson Museum and Science Center and over two million dollars for developing the former Cowles Hall dormatory at Elmira College into a center for the college’s nursing, speech and hearing programs as well as providing space for new healthcare programs.
