The Seton Catholic Central Saints shutout the Beaver River Beavers 3-0 this afternoon at Hornet Field at Broome Community College and advance to the semi-final round of the New York State Public High School Athletic Association Baseball Championships this Saturday.  Left-hander Patrick Gosney went the distance on the mound for Coach Jim Miller’s team.  Gosney limited the Beavers to just two hits in the shutout performance.

The Saints were up 1-0 before tacking on an additional pair of runs to secure the victory.  With the win Seton Catholic Central heads to the state semi-finals in Class “C” competition on Saturday morning.  They will meet an opponent to be named after tomorrow afternoon’s other quarter-final action wraps-up. The Saints will again play at Broome Community College, site of the ‘C” State Championship Tournament.

Section 4 will be hosting all classifications of championships for baseball Saturday.  Semi-finals will be played at 10AM and 1 PM with the championship games set for 4 PM.  Besides BCC, other venues for State Championship play are:  Class “AA” at Binghamton University; Class “A” at NYSEG Stadium; Class “B” at Union-Endicott; and Class “D” at Conlon Field in Binghamton.
